Residents of Gombi town in Adamawa have lauded the Army and hunters operating in the area for foiling a night attack on the town by some insurgents.

“They (insurgents) attempted to enter the town around 7 pm on Monday along the Gombi to Garkida road but were repelled by the military, killing many of them and recovering five of their vehicles.

“Two of the insurgent’s vehicles recovered, were completely burnt during the encounter which lasted for about two hours”, a resident, who identified himself as Buba Gombi, said.

Other residents, who spoke to 247ureports.com on condition of anonymity, said the insurgents attempted to enter the town at about 6. 45 pm.

“They were confronted by the army and the fighting lasted up to 9 pm when we stopped hearing gun shots and explosion.

“The Army and hunters later went round the town, urging people to stay calm and assuring that the situation was under control,” said another resident.

Effort to get the military authorities in Yola to comment on the Gombi incident did not yield result as they said only the Defence headquarters could comment on the on-going fight against Boko Haram.

Gombi was one of the areas recovered from the insurgents by the military three months ago.
