A group under the aegis of Nigeria in Save Hands Group, has called on the National Assembly not to tamper with the budget proposal of the Nigerian military for the sake of achievement it has recorded against the dread Boko Haram group recently.
It, however, expressed solidarity and commendation to the military in the fight against insurgents in the country.
Speaking its national coordinator of the group, Godwin Melaiga, said they were at the military headquaters to tell the military that Nigerians were fully behind them, also told the National Assembly members approve the budget of the military 100 per cent.
“We are also here today to also tell our National Assembly, because fighting war is not a day’s job fighting war is not easy, so Military will need resources to fight this war they are fighting, if we have had enough weapons in the past I don’t think fighting the Boko Haram would have taken them one week, the arms they are using today and they are succeeding is because those arms came very late.
“We are using this opportunity to tell our National Assembly members that they should not torch the defense budget for 2015. Whatever military have demanded for should be given to them and approve hundred per cent. We do not have to wait till when we face war like this before we upgrade our armouries, we do not have to wait until we have war before we have to look for money to buy arms, it took months for the arms they are using now to arrive here and that is why Boko haram had to penetrate us a little beat, most those Local governments captured by Boko haram have been recaptured our military and we are saying thank you to them today.”
Responding, Air Vice Mashal Umar Omeiza, who stood in for the Chief of Defence Staff, thanked the group for recognising the efforts of the military in keeping the country and and ensure peace reign.
Omeiza admitted that though the military started the fight in a low key, “because of the reasons you proffered and then you can see the achievements that we are gaining because of the changes in the status quo. So, we thank you all.”
He therefore assured that military will never again allow the terrorist group to succeed again in Nigeria.
“We are not going to allow terrorist in Nigeria and so we do promise you that by God’s grace we are going to deliver because that is what all of us signed when we joined the military to defend Nigeria both up, down and waters, and that exactly we are going to do.”
