An attempt was made on Monday by some Honorable members to remove the
Speaker of the Adamawa state house of Assembly Rt. Honourable Ahmadu
Umaru Fintiri but the attempt failed.
There was tension in the state following reports that the speaker will
be removed while supporters of those behind the plot were already
on ground to celebrate the removal.
According to reports, Fintiri had since the impeachment of erstwhile,
Governor Nyako been at daggers drawn with the State Governor Barrister
James Nggilari and some lawmakers that tagged the speaker a traitor
and who failed to secure their return ticket to the house.
Recently there was exchange of brick bats between the executive and
the legislative following an acerbic advertorial in which Governor
Bala was purported to accused President Jonathan of betraying him,
while on the other hand there was also similar advertorial accusing
the embattled Speaker of betrayal to his political god fathers
including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Murtala Nyako.
During Monday’s sitting the speaker escaped the impeachment plot by
whiskers as some lawmakers that were bent on removing Fintiri were
taken unawares, following the sudden change in the leadership of the
House of Assembly.
The perceived sponsors of the plot were hurriedly removed from their
position which include the majority leader Mr Salihu Karbilo and Jerry
Kundusi the chief whip.
Karbilo was replaced by the speaker’s loyalist and former majority
leader, Ishaku Bala while Aminu Iya Abbas has taken over from Jerry
Kundusi as chief whip and subsequently the Speaker who presided the
sitting re-constituted the local government probe committee .
Our correspondent reports that there was tight security tight at the
state Assembly while Fintiri’s antagonists had planned to stage
street celebrations in the event of an impeachment.
