Minister of Interior Abba Moro and the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba have met ahead the general elections scheduled for this month, even as the IG called for improved synergy between the Police and paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior for enhanced security during and after the general election.
The IG who paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro to strategies on better ways of guaranteeing security, made the call.
He commended the efforts of the agencies in assisting the Police in protecting lives and property saying a lot has been done to ensure that security officers deployed for the polls adhere to best practices.
Responding, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the existing synergy between the their service agencies and the Police noting that the rivalry that earlier existed between the police and other security agencies have been rested.
“I am pleased to note that the networking between the Police and the Para -Military services during your tenure is commendable”.
While pledging the support of all the agencies to partner with the Police during the elections, Moro announced that 56,000 NSCDC personnel and 129,000 non regular personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC would be mobilised for the elections.
He also appealed to the IG to beef up security in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State where Fulani herds men killed over 80 persons recently saying if security is not beefed up the people may not be able to exercise their franchise.
The Minister also assured that the personnel at the boarder were on red alert to ensure a watertight boarder.
