Zimbabwean government said on Wednesday in Harare, that it has deported 179 Ethiopians who illegally entered into the country in October 2014.
Harare Magistrate, Tendai Mahwe, said that the 179 Ethiopians, aged between 15 and 28, pleaded guilty to contravening the country’s immigration laws when they appeared in court.
The magistrate warned the group before handing them to the immigration department for immediate deportation to desist from the act in the future.
Mahwe said the Ethiopians, who pleaded to be granted asylum, claimed they were running away from political violence back home.
He said the group had earlier been advised to get proper documentation before entering Zimbabwe.
