Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta on Tuesday pledged the commitment of his administration to complete the 150 low cost owner-occupier housing units in Asaba constructed for the state workers.
The governor made the pledge when he inspected the level of work on some ongoing projects in the state capital.
He said that construction work on the housing project would be hastened to enable workers occupy them before May 29.
He said that landscaping, provision of water, light and construction of access road to the housing project would be urgently addressed by the government.
“This housing units are on owner-occupier basis and as the occupants pay, the next government can use the proceeds to build more houses,” he said.
Chief Paulinus Apeki, the Chief of Staff, Government House and former Commissioner for Housing, who conducted the governor round the project, said the major challenge facing the project was landscaping.
He said that the housing units, made up of 50 one-bedroom, 50 two-bedroom and 50 three-bedroom apartments, is one of the landmark projects of Uduaghan’s administration.
Apeki announced that government had given approval for the acquisition of a large expanse of land for the construction more housing projects in Asaba.
Earlier, Uduaghan while inspecting the level of work at the Women Affairs’ Day-care, Nursery and Primary School on Summit Road, Asaba, urged the contracting ministry to ensure early completion.
He expressed concern over the high population of the school and ordered the re-opening of GRA Model Primary School in Asaba to admit some of the pupils.
A statement issued by Mr Paul Osahor the state Director of Information, said Uduaghan was expected to commission some completed road projects across the state on Thursday.
