Information available to 247ureports.com hints that another stage appears set to fool Nigerians to believe the factionalization of the Boko Haram insurgents has taken hold.
It is recalled the first hint of factionalization was when Abubakar Shekau the acclaimed leader of the Boko Haram sect in a video clip disowned supposed ongoing peace talks between his group and that of the Federal Government. This time around, on Thursday evening some military helicopters were seen dropping leaflets with the inscription of the Boko Haram.
According to the messages written in Arabic, English and Hausa Languages, the group purportedly said they are regretting their actions which has led to the destruction of lives and property.
The sect, according to one of the pamphlets in English says they had started their Jihad as one, sleeping together, studied the Quran and prayed together in the early days of the Jihad – but now have discovered they were used for selfish and corrupt reason and now they have realized that it is the leaders who are enjoying while ‘we the members’ are suffering.
Interestingly, the pamphlets were signed by names of towns. The town of Gamboru, Damask and Alagamo were appended as signatories. The Hausa Pamphlets were written in either Nigerien or Chadian Hausa and certainly not the Nigerian Hausa – said a native of one of the towns.
Most of the people in Gombi and Song Local Government areas were scared stiff when they saw the choppers throwing out the pamphlets with some residents taking to their heels while some took the nearest commercial vehicles and headed for the state capital.
Speaking to 247ureports.com, the chairman of Gombi confirmed the flyers but was quick to add that the military authorities in Yola have confirmed that they were aware of the flyers.
But many of the natives saw it as another antics of the Boko Haram sect. “It’s not sincere there will be another drama”.
Another question that some of the natives want answered is, “why would the military be responsible for distributing these pamphlets? Who stands to gain from this?”
