At least 37 people were on Tuesday killed while 23 others sustained severe injury during a bomb and gun clash between Boko Haram terrorists and military forces at a Military Checkpoint in Biu local government area of Borno state. Survivor said
The people killed include 19 civilians who were either motorists and petty traders close to the Checkpoint, 17 suspected Boko Haram fighters and one female local vigilante official , a Military Source said.
Soldiers had stopped the bus carrying some suspected Boko Haram members as they approached a Military Checkpoint in Biu town but the terrorists refused to stop before shooting and bomb explosion ensued between the insurgents and the Military says Abdu Sani , a member of the local vigilante group in Borno state.
” At least 37 people who were at the Checkpoint at the time of the attack were killed by bomb explosions from the bus carrying the suspected Boko haram members.
” many others sustained gunshot injuries when the terrorists hurriedly alighted from the bomb laden bus and stated shooting at every possible targets ” an eyewitness said
On Monday another set of suspected Boko Haram members invaded the near deserted Askira – Uba town and burnt down major government and traditional ruler’s buildings as well as looted and burnt down a commercial Bank in the town. a fleeing resident said.
” for now, virtually all the major Houses in Askira Uba town have been burnt down. The Boko Haram members came in large numbers and burnt the Emir’s Palace, the local government secretariat, the government lodge and other notable houses in the town. ” Maina Maina , a resident said
