Vice President Namadi Sambo said on Tuesday the Federal Government had successfully revived 3,500 kilometres of railway nationwide in a bid to further transform the country’s transport sector.

Sambo stated this in Lafia, Nasarawa State during the ongoing nationwide Presidential Campaign Rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He assured the people of the state that the train service would begin in the state soon.

“We want to thank you Mr President, the Senate President has said it all. The trains, as from this week, will start coming to Nasarawa State to move you to all parts of this country.

“The infrastructure development that Mr President is putting in place, as I speak we have revived 3,500km of railway that is working in Nigeria.

“The economy of this country needs a proper transportation system; and this is one of the areas.

“In the area of road (construction), 20,000km have been added to the road network of this country. We thank you very much for that Mr President.

“And the time has come again that we are calling on you to vote for Mr President, come Feb.14, 2015; to vote for our gubernatorial candidates on Feb. 28; to vote for our Senators; to vote for our candidates for the House of Representatives and to vote for our candidates for the State House of Assemblies.“

Sambo further thanked President Jonathan for providing N26 billion to boost dry season farming across the country, and assured that farmers in Nasarawa would benefit from the incentives.

Also addressing the mammoth crowd, Gov. Gabriel Suswam of Benue, enjoined the electorate in Nasarawa to come out en masse and vote for Jonathan/Sambo in the Feb. 14 presidential election to ensure continuity in governance.

He said that only the Jonathan-led administration could continue to execute meaningful projects across the North Central zone, if re-elected in Feb.14.

The governor cited the dualisation of the Keffi-Makurdi road.

“Here is a man, who has decided that this road (Keffi to Makurdi) must be dualised. It is not something we should joke with.

“He is the only person, who understands the infrastructural problems that we have, and so we must vote him back so that he will complete this road for us.

“I know and I’m aware as a fact that there are a lot of projects that he has started in Nasarawa state.

“So, you people should vote him back so that he continues and complete those projects.“

Also addressing the crowd, Senate President David Mark and the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign, Sen. Ahmadu Ali, assured that PDP would reclaim Nasarawa from the All Progressive Congress.

They, therefore, called on the electorate to vote massively for Jonathan/Sambo and the other PDP candidates in the Feb. 14 and Feb. 28 elections.
