Failing health has robbed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of its
gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming elections on February 14th
2015 in Adamawa State.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
He is reverend Hakila Yerima who emerged as the SDP candidate on
December 6th 2014 and ironically died on January 6th 2015 exactly one
month.
State Secretary of the party Dr. John Luka who confirmed the story,
said the candidate died of liver related disease at Gombe.
According to Dr. Luka, the deceased had on December 27th 2014 written
to the party n his desire to withdraw from the race due to failing
health.
Part of the said letter reads in part, “I wish to tender my intention
to withdraw my candidature in the forthcoming governorship election
due to my failing health”.
He had in the said letter, then thanked the teeming members of the
party for the confidence reposed on him and implored them to look for
a credible candidate that will fly the party’s’ flag in the
forthcoming elections.
Dr. Luka said the party has since notified INEC of the development
adding that the national body of SDP was working round the clock to
effect change for a candidate to fill the vacuum left by the death of
Yerima.
An INEC official who confirmed receipt of the information from the
state SDP secretariat however did not wish his name on print saying a
formal statement will be issued in due course.
