The political meager by the group of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] and other members of selected minority and/or local political parties have so far played the role to cloud the media airwaves and the political stage within the last few months with threats and promises to unseat the incumbent president – less all hell will break lose. The noise decibel has so reached a deafening level following the primary election for the selection of who will fly the presidential banner for the All Progressive Congress [APC] at the February 14, 2015 general elections – that many within the populace began to harbor fears of what will become of the elections. With the victory of the former Nigerian dictator, Malam Mohammed Buhari, the political mechanization became more unsettling and precarious for the involved parties in the political tussle.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.Information available to 247ureports.com from competent sources within the APC offices in Abuja indicate that while the noise decibel maybe deafening outside the walls of the APC, the grumbling within the APC appears more deafening and potentially dangerous enough to rupture the existing agreement reached among the presidential aspirants which had binded the aspirants to remain in APC after the APC presidential primaries. According to the available information, the four aspirants were ready to abide by the terms of the agreement particularly since the outcome of the primaries were virtually known to them before the conclusion of the exercise. โBuhariโs victory was easy for them to acceptโ said one of the national executive officers of APC who explained that the Atiku camp appears the most affected. According to the source, the Atiku find themselves in a perculair situation compared to the governor of Kano [Kwankwaso] and the governor of Imo State [Okorocha] who are both reverting to other electoral positions away from the presidential race. Governor Kwankwaso has picked senatorial ticket for APC while Governor Okorocha has collected the reelection gubernatorial ticket for Imo State.
Atiku Abubakar who came third in the presidential primaries behind Buhari and Kwankwaso is reported to have approached the godfathers of the party to discuss the vice presidential slot. According to our source, Atiku wanted to be given the opportunity to select the person that would partner with Buhari as running mate. In Atikuโs logic, Tinubu has had his slot โ which was the presidential slot โ and since Kwankwaso and Okorocha have gone to seek alternate positions, the party ought to consider allowing him select Buhariโs running mate.
But the Director General of the Buhari Presidential campaign, Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has expressed similar interest in occupying and/or selecting a candidate to occupy the said position. The Ameachi camp is reported to have invested substantially into the APC presidential project โ and thus is expecting to have a substantial input into who mounts the vice presidential seat.
Unfortunate for both the camps of Amaechi and Atiku, the godfathers of the party seem to not share the same sentiments over the selection of Buhariโs running mate. The general consensus among the godfathers of the party point to the Tinubu camp as having the final say on who mounts the seat to second Buhari. And, Tinubu is reported to have tapped on Prof. Yemi Osibanjo as his choice to deputize Buhari.
But the choice of Osibanjo has not gone well with the governors and other major stakeholders within the party who expected a Muslim/Muslim ticket โ or one of the seating APC governors as the running mate. In this wake, some of the presidential aspirants along with other financial contributors to the presidential projects have begun holding โloose fittedโ meetings at secret venues. The aim of the meetings according to our source is to decide on how to handle what appears an over domineering stance of Tinubu over party affairs. It is not certain if the group meeting have consider defecting from the party but what is certain is the shared unhappiness among the group towards the management of APC.
The Atiku camp was quick to deny having plans of decamping from the APC. A high ranking official from the Atiku campaign office told 247ureports.com that โNo, he wonโt leave the party at allโ. ย The Amaechi camp refused to comment as to whether their principal has begun contemplating a withdrawal from the party.
Meanwhile, the southwest governors of the APC are said to be developing a cold feet towards the presidency project. Our source indicates that the management of the emergence of the vice presidential running mate has unsettled many of the governor into withdrawing a large portion of their financial support from presidency project.
