…As Delegates Endorse Deputy Speaker’s Candidacy

If the recent endorsement of the frontline governorship aspirant Chief Emeka Ihedioha as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) consensus governorship candidate for the 2015 polls by statutory and adhoc  delegates of the party from some local government areas is anything to by, then the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives will soon emerge as the party’s flag bearer during the December 8 governorship primaries in the state.

Ihedioha, who was cleared by the PDP Screening Committee in Enugu to take part in the party’s primaries, was first endorsed by the statutory and adhoc  delegates of the party from Aboh Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala federal constituency the State as a consensus candidate.

This was quickly followed by further acceptance and endorsement of the Deputy Speaker as their choice governorship candidate, by delegates of Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma and Obowo council areas after an interactive session at the Amakohia country home of Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu in Ihitte Uboma LGA.

Before the endorsements, the deputy speaker’s supporters had won election as ward delegates in most of the local government areas of the state, a development that led to most of his allies emerging victorious during the last Saturday’s House of Assembly primaries.

He had also garnered the support of the leaders and delegates from Njaba, Owerri West, Ikeduru, Orsu, Ideato North and Ideato South LGAs to emerge as the party’s candidate ahead of the next Monday’s election.

At Aboh Mbaise, a chieftain of the party, Professor PGC Nworgu moved the motion for the adoption of Ihedioha as consensus candidate and was seconded by a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Anamelechi Nicholas Aguwa.

At a solidarity visit to the Deputy Speaker in his country home Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise council area, he explained that the adoption was in clear recognition and appreciation of the sterling leadership qualities of the Deputy Speaker.

One of the foundation members of the party and a one time member of the State House of Assembly Oliver Enwerenem who spoke to newsmen explained that the endorsement and adoption was a product of a thorough search for a credible candidate that would return the party to its winning ways.

Responding, a visibly excited Ihedioha, commended the delegates for their emergence stressing the need for party supremacy in all issues affecting the members.

He stated that as a pillar of the party, he was keenly interested in rendering qualitative service to the people, using his wealth of experience in legislative business at the National Assembly.

Ihedioha, who evaluated the state of affairs in Imo, noted that the problems confronting the state, though numerous and embarrassing, could be redressed by a leader with clear visions, ideas and administrative ingenuity to tackle the challenges.

“The thing a government owes the people is the provision of human infrastructure and not building 27 General Hospital on the Highways while the state economy is in shambles”, he said.

The Deputy Speaker who boasted of fetching victory for the party if given the opportunity to fly the party’s flag for the February 2015 gubernatorial election, enjoined the party delegates to remain reliable and dependable apostles of his governorship project.
