Delta Youths, Elders Protest APC Imposition Of Senatorial Candidate

Niger Delta youths, Delta state chapter under the aegis of Delta Coalition for Change (DCC) in their numbers today stormed the National Secretariat of All Progressives Congress (APC) in protest, accusing the party National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun of imposing Prince Yemi Emiko, as the senatorial candidate of the party for Delta South senatorial district.

The youths led by comrade Young Piero, attempted to padlock the main entrance of the party Secretariat in protest against what the called injustice against the will of the people.

Comrade Piero told journalists in an interview that Barr. Temisan Omotseye, was actually declared winner of the three aspirants that contested the senatorial primaries, adding that how Prince Yemi Emiko, who came far second at the contest became the candidate was a surprise to them.

Also in a protest letter addressed to the National Chairman, Chief Oyegun by the Delta state elders committee, signed by Senator F.S Okposo, Dr. Alex Ideh, Chief LJ Esigie and Chief FF Rewane, described the alleged imposition of Prince Yemi Emiko as an ugly sign which they believed will damage the reputation of the party and possibly lead to chaos.

The letter read: “We the undersigned leaders shown below witnessed the primaries and seriously frown at the imposition of Prince Yemi Emiko who did not win the primaries as our candidate  for Delta South Senatorial district.

” The people of the Delta South senatorial district have spoken by their vote and therefore the sanctify of the result of the votes must be respected.”

They also urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to do the right thing by declaring Barr. Temisan Omatseye as the rightful winner to avoid “any unpleasant consequences which can affect the overall performance of the party in Delta state.”
