According to sources, the attackers arrived the town on its market day [Wednesday] – setting off improvised explosive devices [IEDs] while setting an estimated three hundred [300] buildings on fire. One of the security agents who escaped the attack told our reporter that “people were just ambushed while pursuing their trades“. The military source added that he was not certain the figures for the number of dead but he confirmed that he left many children behind who were screaming for help.

When asked whether soldiers were present at the time of the attack, the source responded that there were Nigerian soldiers present but “they escaped when they heard the first bomb“.

The Cameroon side of the town is reported to be facing fierce battle from Cameroon’s elite military Rapid Intervention Battalion. The Nigerian side meanwhile has fallen to the control of Boko Haram. Residents are presently deserting the town.
