Boko Haram insurgents has renewed their attacks on communities in Borno, killing no fewer than 14 people in a fresh attack in the northern part of the state.
Sources said the insurgents raided Gajigana in Mongumeri Local Government on Wednesday night in two hilux vehicles.
A resident who preferred anonymity due to fear, said the insurgents were firing at residents as they flee.
“First they were shooting anyhow for about ten minute, then they started putting fire on houses and as people were escaping, the insurgents were firing people,” the resident tols 247ureports on telephone.
He said insurgents operated for about five hours without any intervention from the security troops, adding that 14 people were shot dead by the violent sect.
He also disclosed that over a thousands of people have fled the town and may be heading to already populated Maiduguri, the state capital. He said many may also trapped in the bushes, urging military authority to deploy troops to the area to assist the fleeing residents.
More than 600, 000 people have been displaced by the five years old insurgency in the northeast, a recent statistics given by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reveals. Checks by 247ureports also indicated that more than 30, 000 people have died as as results of Boko Haram attacks.
