A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State, Hon. Usman Mamman Durkwa, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not alter the political equation in the state because its current leaders cannot be trusted.
Durkwa, a former Commissioner for Religious Affairs added that the defection of former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff to the PDP will not make any difference.
Speaking to 247ureports.com in Maiduguri yesterday, Durkwa assured that the APC is sure of total victory in the state come 2015 because its leaders have delivered the promises they made to the electorate.
The APC chieftain, who had served as Commissioner during the eight years tenure of Sheriff admitted that he was under pressure to join the PDP.
“They have been sending emissaries to talk to me and they even promised me the position of deputy governor under their party platform but I will never succumb to that pressure.
He was reacting to a report that he and most of his associates are being lobbied to join the PDP.
“Everybody knows that I am a close associate of Governor Shettima and will never succumb to pressure to join the PDP.
“Even if I am to leave the APC, I will never join the PDP. We would do our best to ensure that the APC win all elective positions in the next year’s general election in the state,” Durkwa added.
On why he will not join the PDP, Durkwa said, “I had a written agreement with former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, since 2003 that I would become Deputy Governor in Borno state which he could not fulfill,” he said.
