The Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, FCIArb was among 44 other Nigerians conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators in Lagos on Friday.
Mr. Charles Ajuyah SAN who received his certificate, plague and medal of fellowship presented to him by the Governing Council of the Institute in a colourful induction ceremony at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos was attended by several prominent Legal practitioners and jurists including Hon. Justice Muhammed Baba Idris, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN and Senator Effiong Dickson Bob amongst other eminent personalities.
The President of the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Stella Ogene, Chief Thompson Okpoko, SAN, and Chief Efe Akpofure, SAN were among prominent Deltans conferred with the Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria at the induction ceremony while two Legal Officers sponsored by the Delta State Ministry of Justice for the arbitration course were among those inducted as Associates of the Institute.
Speaking on behalf of the new inductees’ Fellows, Mr. Charles Ajuyah SAN expressed gratitude to the Governing Council of the Institute for painstakingly impacting them with the requisite training and knowledge in arbitration and their subsequent induction as Fellows’ of the Institute. While promising to protect and uphold the aims and objectives of the Institute in the training of Arbitrators extol the use of arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism in the country. The Delta Attorney-General expressed the hope that with the caliber of persons inducted as Fellows, arbitration will be taken to the next level in the Country.
Earlier, in his welcome remark, the Secretary General of the Governing Council, Dr. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, who read the President and Chairman’s speech, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, while congratulating all inductees, charged them to practice and be promoters of the use of arbitration in Nigeria in resolving dispute. He also charge them to be good ambassadors of the Institute.
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria is an independent body established in 1979 to promote the development of Arbitration for dispute resolution in Nigeria. With this current induction, the Institute now boost of over 1000 members, with two major categories of membership – Associate members and Fellow.
