Abia 2015: Obingwa Stakeholders Adopt Ikpeazu As Consensus Governorship Candidate

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Obingwa L.G.A of Abia state have adopted Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu who resigned his position as Deputy General Manager (DGM), Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) as a consensus candidate in the 2015 governorship election.


The motion for Ikpeazu’s adoption was moved by Chief Ibe Nwadioha and seconded by Chidiebere Ihenyeremadu during the grand civic reception organized by Obingwa Peoples Assembly (OPA) at Itungwa, Obingwa LGA.


Speaking at the occasion, Transition Committee Chairman, Prince Obinna Nwabiaraije, who spoke on behalf of the leadership of Obingwa LGA, also supported Ikpeazu’s endorsement as a consensus candidate.


Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Arc. Dan Nwankwo who lost the PDP governorship ticket to Chief Orji Uzor Kalu in 1999, described Ikpeazu as a great son of Obingwa and a man of grace and candor that has distinguished himself in all spheres of human endeavours.


He extolled Ikpeazu’s accomplishments as a lecturer, Transition Committee (TC) chairman, Obingwa L.G.A, Special Adviser to the Governor, General Manager, Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS), Chairman Governing Council, Abia State College of Health Technology and Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Aba zone.


“This Peoples Democratic Party governorship hopeful, has been accepted in Abia state political space. Therefore, having seen the acceptability of this erudite scholar, we raise our voice in one accord to endorse him as sole candidate on the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries of 8th December 2014 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party,” Nwankwo said.


Responding, Ikpeazu expressed gratitude to the people for their endorsement as a sole candidate ahead of the party primaries and promised to deliver dividends of democracy equitably and across the three senatorial zones building on the legacies and achievements of Gov. Theodore Orji if he emerges next governor of the state.


Highlights of the occasion include the conferment of “Ugo Obingwa” to Ikpeazu and wife by the traditional rulers led by the chairman, Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Eberechi Dick who also hailsfrom Obingwa L.G.A.
