PRESS STATEMENT
The attention of my Office, the Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Enugu State chapter, has been drawn to announcements by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Okey Eze, purportedly convening an extraordinary meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party scheduled for today, Friday, October 31, 2014.
This is to inform all members of the PDP, Enugu State chapter, the security agencies, and the general public that the said meeting is illegal and intended to further violate the party’s constitution.
It is not in doubt that I am the Acting Chairman of our great party in Enugu State in line with Section 45 and Section 35 subsection 3(b0 of the Party’s Constitution as affirmed by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting of Wednesday, October 28th and 29th 2014.
No request whatsoever has been made to me by any member of the party to convene an extraordinary meeting of the PDP in the state in line with the PDP Constitution. Therefore, the planned SEC meeting being convened is another act of impunity and gross illegality being perpetrated by some desperate elements within the Enugu PDP. It is a clear gross disobedience to the PDP Constitution and the directive of the party’s NWC, hence whatever resolution emerging from such illegality is not binding on the Enugu PDP or its members.
A proper meeting of the SEC will be convened as directed by the PDP National Working Committee at the appropriate time.
The preoccupation of the party is to ensure a successful conduct of the Party’s Ward Congresses holding on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The PDP faithfuls in all the 266 Electoral Wards of Enugu State are therefore enjoined to direct their energies towards hitch-free and democratic congresses as the unauthorised announcement was intended to cause confusion and generate bad blood in our great party.
Signed:
Elder David Aja
Acting State Chairman
PDP, Enugu State
