Four Ekiti communities on Monday protested the creation of Ifedara Local Council Development Area (LCDA) with headquarters in Igbemo-Ekiti.
The protesting communities are Iworoko-Ekiti, Are-Ekiti, Afao-Ekiti and Araromi-Obo-Ekiti, and were formally in the Ifelodun axis of the former Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The Spokesman for the communities, during their protest to Ekiti State House of Assembly, Chief Deji Fasuan, said the creation of Ifedara LCDA was an error.
The communities through Fasuan called for immediate correction of the LCDA to New Irepodun, saying that has always been their agitation.
“We notice in the proclamation that an Ifedara Local Council Development Area was created.
“We believe this was an error because, no parties or groups made a request for a development area called Ifedara..
“We shall therefore appreciate if appropriate correction be made by the government.
“This is because our area has been known, called and addressed as Ifelodun from time immemorial, dating back to more than 70 years,” Fasuan said.
He said the only way to correct the anomalise was the immediate consideration of a new Local Council Development Area to be called Irepodun with headquarters located in Are/Afao.
“We know some mistakes have been made from the above, first, the name of the council and second, location of the headquarters.
“But, it is our belief that these errors can be corrected within the time frame of this administration.”
The Speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin, in his response thanked the communities for channelling their  protest in a lawful manner, saying there is nothing out of place in their actions.
He promised that their request would be considered based on merit and appropriate recommendations made to the government.
The State Assembly on July 23 passed a bill for the creation of additional 19 new LCDAs from the existing 16 local government areas in Ekiti.
