The Anambra state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ifeanyi Ofodile has categorically made it clear that the Union is not in any way against President Goodluck Jonathan’s wish to resume schools on Monday as long as the Ebola kit is made available.

The state chairman of the union stated this while addressing pressmen and principal of schools in the state at the state NUT secretariat in Awka.

The federal government last month extended resumption of schools to October 13th to contain the spread of Ebola virus, assuring that the epidemic is being contained and measures are in place to curb the spread of the scourge, the government reversed the school resumption date to September 22nd.

Against the background of precautionary concern for the health of Nigeria’s teeming school population in the wake of the hanging threat of the Ebola disease, the Anambra state NUT has expressed readiness to resume school on Monday on the condition that they will be provided with the Ebola kit within a week of resumption.

“The state’s president of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals Secondary schools and the chairman of the association of primary school head teacher of Nigeria have expressed readiness to resume school.

For their part, proprietors in the private education sector claim to have set in place plans to protect their students against the Ebola virus and commence with their school calendar for the year
