The correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra council has elected Mr. Emmanuel Ndukuba of The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and Emmanuel Uzor of The Sun Newspapers as Chairman and Secretary of the union respectively.
Mr. Ndukuba defeated his closest rival, Beatrice Onuchukwu of Daily Trust newspaper who had served the chapel for three years with a vote of 23 against 11.
Other officers elected on Tuesday in the peaceful election supervised by the NUJ Chairman, Mr. Henry Nwanosike, were Emmanuel Uzor of the Sun Newspapers as Secretary and Pamela Eboh of the Champion Newspapers as Treasurer both unopposed.
The Chairman of the committee, Emeka Osondu who declared results said the conduct of the exercise met the provisions of the NUJ constitution while commending all participants.
“Having satisfied the rules and regulation of elections as provided in the constitution, I hereby declare Emmanuel Ndukuba as winner and he is returned as chairman”, he said.
In his acceptance speech, Ndukuba thanked members for having confidence in what he could do and promised to take the activities of the chapel in the state to the next level.
Ndukuba said welfare of members would be his interest while noting that the chapel would accord activities in the state objective reportage for the general good of all.
