The last may have not been heard over the ever unfolding impeachment saga in north central State of Nasarawa. Information available to 247ureports.com indicate that the supposed exoneration of the State governor of Nasarawa State by the impeachment panel recently may have opened a new can of worms for the governor instead of ameliorating his fears of falling prey to the impeachment wave blowing across select States of the country.
As gathered, in a new development, the residents of Nasarawa State have taken to the streets to protest the actions of the impeachment panel – that had acted to exonerate the state governor of any wrongdoing worthy of impeachment. The crowd of protesters, estimated in the 100s of people, were said to have begun their match from the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] secretariat headed towards the Nasarawa State Assembly complex. They carried placards that read “Al Makura Must Go”, “Bring Back Our Money”.
Already, the security agencies stationed in Nasarawa State has tightened security around the affected areas – including the State assembly complex, the government house and all state sensitive offices and buildings.
Meanwhile, the State Assembly are reported to be in a closed door meeting – with some of the major stakeholders of the PDP, Akwe Doma, Labaran Maku, Solomon Ewuga and others. The pro-impeachment legislators had already tabled their objection over the actions of the 7-member panel to the courts – seeking that the courts declare the decision of the Panel “null and void”. In addition, the legislators have charged that the Panel is to submit their findings to the State Assembly. It remains uncertain if the Panel has submitted their findings to the Nasarawa legislators.
