The name of our great party – All Progressives Congress (APC), cannot, and must not be drawn into the difficult romance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its trading outlet in the South East –All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
This emphatic position statement has become necessary in the light of the spurious claims by one Ken Emeakayi, who like the National Chairman of his party, is not elected by any congress but claims to be the chairman of PDP in Anambra State, to cast aspersions on our formidable and popular party, on pages 50 and 51 of The Sun of 26th August 2014, in his denouncement of APGA’s claim to President Goodluck Jonathan.
In the piece entitled : ‘ OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY ,DR WILLIE OBIANO ,GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE’ which is ordinarily not the business of my great party -currently pre-occupied with the logistics of organising the best democratic presidential primaries Nigeria has ever witnessed ,after the greatest National Convention by any political party-Emeakayi momentarily digressed from his subject of bitterness-APGA,with which his ilk have been engaged in a bitter struggle to own President Goodluck Jonathan in a premature presidential campaign.’
.
The publication solely signed by Mr Emeakayi, as it concerns us, read interalia:
‘Whereas we have never bothered about the lip service being offered (sic) by some highly-placed members of APGA towards the their support for the PDP candidate in the 2015 presidential elections while at the same time hobnobbing and romancing, holding (sic)clandestine meetings with All Progressives Congress (APC).’
In the first place, we have noted, along with all other discerning Nigerians, the confession from the ‘office of the State Chairman of PDP’ in the reference publication which declares that Goodluck Jonathan is the candidate of the PDP in the 2015 presidential elections.
The content of this confession has been shrouded in proxy rallies, populated by President Jonathan and his aides, and elaborate campaign adverts in the mass media on the same subject, all in breach of the provisions of the 2010 Electoral Act.
Significantly, this infraction clearly reminds us that after Umar Musa Ya’Adua, Nigeria is yet to get a president that will lead the country along the line of respect for and obedience to the extant laws in its statute books. Yet the nation badly needs one.
Second, and more importantly, our great party states unequivocally, that at no time have we as a party, held any meeting, let alone clandestine one with APGA,its agents or privies, nor are we contemplating doing so, as APGA is a beneficiary of the rape of democracy in Anambra State catalysed by the PDP national leadership. Hence every market woman or bus conductor in Anambra State is aware that the two parties who shared the understanding to rig the 2013 gubernatorial elections in Anambra State with Federal Might are the PDP and APGA.
Little wonder both entities are jointly referred to as APGA-PDP
It would therefore be unfair to bring the APC currently pursuing a serious action in the Supreme Court to bring that damaging electoral theft by both discredited parties to justice, and reclaim the rights of Anambra State citizens to free choice, just to divert attention from an obvious friction that has arisen from the sharing of the proceeds of that grand crime.
APC will never disappoint the people of Anambra State, by wining and dining with a clueless political party making false claim about representing our people, nor with those who having lost face with the electorate, commit themselves for rigging elections in the name of other parties in Anambra and Ondo States to stay relevant.
It is also necessary to strongly observe that APC will not be the cannon fodder for diverting the attention of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP from serious issues of anti-party which has gone on in Anambra State continuously for close to two years
In the circumstance, APC has no option but to request the PDP in Anambra State to withdraw the aspect of that publication that unwarrantedly libels our party, and apologise for their excesses, within seven days, while returning to the rule of law, particularly as it affects observing electoral rules.
It is to be noted that our great party, shall not hesitate to pursue any of the alternative causes of action open to it within the law, in reaction to the reference publication, immediatley or upon the expiration of the given time.
For: ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC)
