Police in Anambra State has swung into action aimed at unveiling the circumstance surrendering the alleged murder of a-28 year-old Azubuike Nwankwo who was allegedly murdered in a cool blood by suspected four-man-gang in Awada-Obosi near Onitsha.
The incident which occurred at about 5pm last Sunday around Oraifite/ Umunze Street Awada Obosi, according to an eyewitness started when the gang led by one Henry Isiakari in a Toyota Corolla car with registration number NSH 534 AA, claimed that the deceased scratched their car with a newly purchased motorcycle.
Late Azubuike Nwankwo who hails from Ogboji Egu-utu village Ezzagu in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, residing at No 10 Paul Okigwe Street Oduke Layout Obosi met his untimely death when he was going to attend a family meeting in their elder brother’s house at Awada.
It was gathered that Mr. Henry who hails from Mbaisein Imo State is presently assisting police in their investigation. According to a reliable source, the trouble ensured when the gang claimed forcefully stopped the deceased and immediately leaped on him and Henry allegedly brought out a car jack from his car and hit their victim on the head.
The late Nwankwo popularly calls Tallest by his admires while trying to run for his life when the beating was uncontrollable, was also blocked by the gang according to an eyewitness account that one of them was said to have lifted a block and hit the deceased on the head which led to his unconsciousness.
“On noticing the victim’s unconsciousness, three others escaped while the crowd had apprehended Henry and calls were made across to the police and a quick response team stormed the scene. “The victim was rushed to one of the hospitals in Awada and after hours of battling to revive the life of the young man by medical experts, he gave up.” The source stated.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Awada Police station, CSP Dimale Joseph said they have arrested one of the suspects while investigation still ongoing on how to arrest other suspects now at large. He however affirmed that the case have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID even as he declined further comment on the matter.
