Ebola: Ondo Govt. Cancels Summer Lessons

Ondo State Government on Friday announced the immediate cancellation of all summer school lessons currently going-on in different parts of the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, Mr Steve Awosika in Akure.


The statement advised parents, school principals; head teachers and proprietors of private schools to comply strictly with the directive.


It said that a new resumption date for the 2014/2015 Academic Session in all schools in the state was in compliance with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Education.
The statement noted that pupils of public, private primary as well as secondary schools are to resume for the new academic session on October 13.

Awosika said that a meeting with stakeholders in the education sector in the state would be attended would hold on September 2.


The federal government on Tuesday postponed the resumption date of primary and secondary schools across the country to curtail the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, at a meeting held with Commissioners of Education of all 36 states and the FCT in Abuja announced the new date.
He said the shift in the date of resumption is to ensure that adequate measures are put in place before the students report back to school.
Shekarau charged all ministries of education to organise training for at least two staff in each public and private school.
He said that the training should be applied by appropriate health personnel on how to handle any suspected case of the virus.
The minister also directed all the state ministries to establish a Working and Monitoring Team and also appoint a designated Desk Officer on Ebola.
