Akwa Ibom State government says it is committed to ensuring that every community in the State is developed, by providing basic infrastructures in rural areas, with a view to making live more meaningful for the people.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, made this known in Uyo, on Tuesday, when he received the management staff of Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development.
He said the government was passionate about community development, which he noted, was a key component in the uncommon transformation programme of the Akpabio administration.
Mr. Umanah stated that in the last seven years, the government, through the Inter-ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee, has executed more than six thousand life-touching rural projects, including electricity, health centres, classroom blocks and potable water, across the thirty-one local government areas of the State.
The essence of the visit, as highlighted by the General Manager of Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development, Mr Ishmael Akpan, was to raise public awareness on the giant strides recorded by the Akpabio administration in community development.
He said the Agency had completed some rural projects in 37 communities across the State, which will be inaugurated from 16th to 19th September, this year.
Mr. Akpan said World Bank officials would be Akwa Ibom State to visit and appreciate Governor Godswill Akpabio, on September 15, for his developmental efforts at transforming the lives of the rural populace.
While describing the Information Commissioner, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, as a principal stakeholder in community and social development, he solicited his support and that of the Ministry, in the area of publicity.
To the Acting Chairman of the Agency, Mr. Raphael Michael Essien, the Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development, would not have been able to actualize its mandate, without the support of the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
During the visit, the Information Commissioner presented his guests with some publications of the Ministry.
