From Nweke Nweke, Awka
The leadership crisis presently bedewing Onitsha Patent Medicine Dealers Union, OPPMDU in Anambra State at the weekend took another dimension as the leadership of the market stood tall and accused a group known as Evangelism group in the market for having attempted causing a breach of the peace and total breakdown of law and order when the group ought to be praying for peace and order in the market went as far as taken laws into their own hands.
Information gathered by 247ureports.com within the market had it that the Evangelism group is campaigning for one Uchenna Ubah as their sole candidate for government’s proposed election into key leadership positions of the market even as it was learnt that Uchenna Ubah and his cohorts are planning to make the market ungovernable should the government set up caretaker committee fails to vacate office within this week. .
But instead of being sensitivity by seeking the face of the Lord in restoring peace and progress in the drugs market, the prayer group via Uchenna Ubah is fingered to be desperate by whipping sentiment, the act that is today bushwhacking havoc among traders and one wonders why the group is using their Bible to foment trouble not only in the market but in Anambra State by extension
Briefing newsmen in the market at the weekend, the government instituted caretaker committee chairman; Mr. Ugochukwu Nwosu said he has for long informed the state government in writing that his tenure has elapsed but the state government through the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Commence, Hon. Ifeatu Onejeme in his letter dated 17th June, 2014 with Ref. No. MITC/MKT/06/62, addressed to Board of Trustees, Onitsha Patent Medicine Dealers Union (OPPMDU), copied to relevant authorities stated it vehemently that the state government is not ready for the conduct of the election.
The letter read thus: “Our attention has been drawn to the purported meeting summoned at Ogbo-Ogwu Head Bridge Market by your board, an act likely to cause a breach of the peace and total breakdown of law and order at Ogbo-Ogwu Market Onitsah”
“Reports have it that you scheduled an election in a Government Markey without the express approval of the Anambra state Government. This is an act of insubordination and sabotage against the genuine desire of the present State Government to bring back sanity to all the State Markets”
“You are by this letter warned to refrain from planning or conducting any illegal election until instructions on the date and nature of the election are issued by the Anambra State Government. Please comply strictly with this directive”
Acting as a fool who points at his father’s house with a left finger, the evangelism group through Uchenna Ubah, according our source, last Friday went out for public protest; forcing government to conduct the election even after the state government has taken its stand on the matter.
Reacting, 83 out of 86 line chairmen and secretaries in OPPMDU sat at the weekend only to come up with a resolution, condemning the actions of the self seekers. The resolution that was signed by Mr. Emmanuel Ozomenem and Hon. Obianyo Cheozie, secretary Udoka line and Chairman Chris Ejike line respectively, which was made available to 247ureports.com warned that those going round fomenting trouble in the market should be held responsible should any thing funny happened to the market.
