A dismissed police officer in Lafia was arrested alongside 21 miscreants stated by the state commissioner of police, Ibrahim Idris. The police top boss who presided over the Joint Task Force stated that the arrested persons were arrested in connection with the skirmishes that erupted following the impeachment proceedings moved by the Nasarawa state House of Assembly.
The police top boss said the crisis ensued as protesters clashed in Tudun Gwandara. He said a dismissed police officer sustained severe injury in the process. The officer was dismissed in 2011.
He stated that four other persons remain at large. Four shops were destroyed by erring mob. The police boss, Ibrahim Idris added that one locally made pistol and cutlasses were recovered.
The commissioner of police also reacted to the report of death in the crisis by some dailies. He debunked the news report. “The reports ignited fear among people of Kwandare community in Lafia”.
The commissioner appealed to journalist in the state to cross check their reportage before going to the press. He noted however that “two injuries were recorded, one of them sustained laceration in his stomach was taken to Agu private hospital by the military and later discharged“.
