Press Statement
Rethink Nigeria, a political advocacy group of young professionals affiliated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC) for standing up to condemn and reject the imposition of a 52 year old National Youth Leader on the youths of the party.
Rethink Nigeria Volunteer Publicity Secretary, Paschal Metuh in a statement on Wednesday noted that the widespread disapproval by APC youths and Nigerian youths in general over the emergence of 52 year old Ibrahim Dasuki Jallo as National Youth Leader of the APC was a victory for democracy and all Nigerian youths.
“We have noted with concern the increasing affinity of the APC with political backwardness and Stone Age politics. It is either they are fronting a tired and retired 70 year old general as Presidential Candidate of their party today or selecting a septuagenarian as their National Chairman tomorrow and now, more ridiculously, foisting on their youths, a 52 year old as National Youth Leader.
“The APC cannot continue with its hypocritical posturing as a group of progressives while every step it takes in its internal party affairs stands in abeyance to the principles of progressive and new age politics.
“We wish, like one of the APC Chieftains, Mallam Nasir El Rufai recently lamented, that their new Youth Leader was much more younger and also, in the mold of young APC social media advocates like Japheth Omojuwa, Rosanwo Babatunde or even Rinsola Abiola.”
The group finally admonished APC youths to keep up the spirit of advocacy and continue to mount pressure on their party elders to learn from the wisdom of the PDP who have a 31 year old Maibasira Abdullahi as National Youth Leader.
