How Zamfara Gov’t House Reporters Escaped Gunshots

It was a dramatic but dangerous scenario when Zamfara State government House Reporters narrowly escaped gunshots from the personal of Police Counter Terrorism Unit along Gusau-Sokoto federal high way on Sunday.

The unfortunate drama started when the eighteen seater bus driver who was conveying the government house journalists from the coronation ceremony of the Emir of Gummi to Gusau the state capital attempted to avoid a traffic gridlock caused by the police stop and search exercise near their usual check point before the NNPC depot.

When the driver pulled out of the traffic hold up the CTU police officer manning our lane immediately stopped the vehicle and instructed him driver to turn back and join the queue and despite attempt by the journalists to explained our situation especially as some of us rushed to reach their media houses for the news production, the police officer insisted we must turn back.

When the Acting Director Press Affairs noticed the circumstances and manner at which the police officer was reacting, he instructed the driver to turn back and while reversing the vehicle, another police officer name withheld suddenly appeared and threatened the driver to either turn or something unusual will happened.

All of us in the car thought it was joking for the simple fact that, the police officers almost knows all of us in the vehicle because they used to drive along the governor’s convoy on some special assignments and even if they did not, the vehicle was carrying an inscription ‘’PRESS’’ with Zamfara government house plate number but, to our surprise, the police officer cooked his AK 47 riffle and point at our vehicle straight.

After noticing his action and the zeal at which he was reacting majority of us dropped on the car to inquire why is he too harsh to us, but he stood to his ground and hold his gun to his target and thanks to an NTA official who was seated at the tail end of the bus he picked his Sunny Digital Camera and asked the police officer to shoot at us if at all we have committed any crime worth shooting.

While his tape was rolling through his Sunny Camera, the police officer changed his mind and dropped the gun down, from their we engaged each other in a positive discussion to resolve the differences.
