IMO STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE
PRESS RELEASE
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has urged the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to, as a matter of urgency, summon an emergency meeting of state governors with him and othe stakeholders, to be held in Borno state so that those with ideas on how best to tackle the security challenges confronting the nation at the moment including the Chibok girls, could come up with such ideas.
Governor Okorocha spoke on Monday May 26, 2014 (today) while fielding questions from media practitioners at Sam Mbakwe Airport. He said that Nigerians have done enough protests and mourning, and said what is required now is action, to see the girls freed and arrest the deteriorating security situation in the country.
He said, despite the daily protests by Nigerians over the abducted Chibok girls, there have been repeated bombings in Jos, Borno and other areas, and added that cancelling every government activity would not bring solution to the insecurity in the country.
Governor Okorocha called on the leaders to leave their comfort zones, come together and exchange ideas on how to save the nation from the ugly situation, adding that this is time to act than thinking about re-election.
Owelle Okorocha noted that the cancellation of government activities is not the best solution to the insecurity situation in the country but suggested that the federal government should act quickly on how to save the souls of the young girls.
The governor stressed that the essence of the APC meeting by South East leaders in Abuja was to galvanize support for APC in the south east and make people understand that APC is not a regional party but a national party that stands for the interest of all Nigerians.
Owelle Okorocha who described APC as the best credible party for Ndigbo said that APC will cater for the welfare of the Igbo nation, and would provide a platform for the people of the South east to vie for the highest position in the country.
He noted that the party has resolved the problems in Anambra, while arrangement has been concluded for Abia and Ebonyi states to conduct fresh party congress.
