It Is Unfair To Tell An Igbo Or Yoruba Man To Leave The North – VC Sokoto State University

Worried by the series of challenges threatening the Unity of Nigeria as a sovereign nation, the Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University Professor Nuhu Yakubu, described the current ethno-religious and political crises rocking Nigeria to the failure of the leaders at all levels to leave above personal sentiments and put the interest of the supremacy of the country at heart.

The University Don who spoke at a fund raising reception by Zamfara State Chapter of Ebira People’s Association, described failed leadership full of personal sentiment and love for a secular ethnic nationality above the rest to be responsible for our present predicament of threat to national unity.

He said Nigeria after Independence has under go so many challenges including the historic civil war, but the circumstance was brought under control because the key actors have the interest and feelings of the country at heart.

He noted that, for year’s, the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani struggle hard to make sure that Nigeria’s unity has been sustain since before independence and it will be very unfair to now tell an Igbo or Yoruba person who spent year’s contributing meaningfully to the economic development of the north to leave for whatever reason and that will be biggest injustice.

He pointed that all that is needed is for the Nigerian leaders to be ‘’just’’ in their dealings and do what is right to their subjects but, anything short of this will not solve Nigeria’s problem.

He said Nigerians despite the differences created by the selfish political power brokers, can unite to stand against injustice if it threaten the unity of Nigerian hood and warned those praying for Nigeria to break to have a re-think but instead pray for God to torch the heart of Nigerian leaders by doing what is expected of them.
