Former Kano governor Ibrahim Shekarau’s anointed gubernatorial candidate in the 2011 election and presently gubernatorial aspirant under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mallam Salihu Sagir Takai escaped being lynched by an irate mob suspected to be anti-Goodluck Jonathan, at Singer market, Kano.
The incident happened when he paid a sympathy visit to victims of a fire outbreak that engulfed several shops at the Singer market in the heart of Kano.
According to an eye witness, the aspirant arrived at the market around 4:30pm with some of his supporters led by one of the party’s henchmen in the market.
“He came to the market with his supporters led by a member of this market who is also very important in the party. We were later told that the PDP gubernatorial aspirant came to sympathise with people that suffered losses in the fire outbreak that occurred eight days ago,” said the eye witness.
It was also gathered that what started as a sympathy visit turned to a political rally. Big speakers were said to have been spread around with supporters chanting the PDP slogan.
“They made a mistake by not informing the market security personnel that they would be coming to the market.
The PDP gubernatorial aspirant had finished what must have brought him to the market; we started hearing the sound of the PDP slogan oozing out from the big speakers they brought with them,” he narrated.
