Indications have emerged that the real reason senatorial aspirant for Orlu Senatorial Zone in Imo State, Chief Felix Chidi Idiga, dumped Governor Rochas Okorocha and his All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is because of the rumoured interest of the governor to defect to the ruling PDP.
247ureports.com has it on good authority that Governor Okorocha is seriously negotiating with the presidency on a possible move for him to return to the PDP.
It was gathered from impeccable sources that having been deserted by almost all his political allies following President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the state in February, the governor decided to play safe by negotiating for a possible return to the PDP.
He was said to have promised the president and the PDP leadership of returning with all aspirants, including Chief Idiga as well as to hand over power to Owerri Zone if he would be promised a ministerial appointment.
But, having heard about the plan by the governor, Idiga who is popularly known with his business name, Jafac Group, decided to return to the PDP ahead of the governor.
Idiga, who is a major contractor with the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, was also said to have considered the possibility of losing subsequent contracts with the commission if he failed to win the senatorial seat in APC.
Addressing journalists in a press conference in his Ofeahia-Amaifeke country home in Orlu Local Government Area of the state, Idiga, who joined Okorocha’s camp barely five months ago, could not give any reason for jettisoning his political romance with the governor and his party.
He simply told newsmen that he decided to move on with his political dream and has chosen to vie the Orlu Senatorial seat on the platform of the PDP.
Adorning a customized long sleeve shirt with the PDP insignia, Idiga stated that his decision was to serve his people of Orlu Zone who have been urging him to fulfill the promise of giving them effective representation at Abuja.
Promising not to disappoint the people, Chief Idiga, who was flanked by the PDP Amaifeke Ward secretary, Chief Smart Uzoagbadike thanked the party executive in Orlu for accepting him and their support.
