Two people were killed while others sustained serious injuries in an accident involving a truck and a tricycle along Ikot Ekpene road, Aba, Abia state.

 

Eyewitness accounts said the truck lost control ran over the adjoining lane before crushing the tricycle coming from the opposite direction before killing a man at a newspaper stand.

 

The truck with registration number, Lagos FST 796 XC was said to have been driven by an apprentice, Marizu Nwankpa who could not control the truck as it lost brakes.

 

247ureports.com gathered that after the tricycle rider as well as one of his passenger s died on the spot while others who sustained varying degree of injuries were taken to an undisclosed hospital in the city.

A staff of the ABC transport company whose office is a stone throw from the scene of the accident, said the bodies of the dead victims was crushed beyond recognition as sympathizers thronged the scene.

 

As at the time of filing this report, the truck was seen at the Eziama Police station while the crushed tricycle has been abandoned at the scene. A police source told our correspondent that Nwankpa is being detained by the station.

 

A final year student of the Abia state Polytechnic, Aba was said to be among the victims who lost their lives in the crash but this could not be confirmed as at the time of writing this report.

Spokesman of the Polytechnic, Chingoziri Anyanwelechi said he is yet to be briefed if any of their students was involved in the mishap.
