The police in Imo State have smashed two notorious car snatching gangs which hitherto terrorized some parts of the state.
The police also killed two members of the syndicates and arrested four.
Parading the suspects yesterday at the state command headquarters, Owerri, the commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, disclosed that the gangs were busted by his Scorpion Squad at Awo- Omamma in Oru East Local Government Area and Owerri North LGA of the state.
According to the police boss, three members of one of the gangs were in their robbery operation in a petrol station at Awo Omamma when the police swooped on them and that during the exchange of fire, one of the robbers, Levi Iwu, 23, fell to the superior power of the police.
He added that the scorpion squad also on March 31, 3014, nabbed a five-man gang who specialized in snatching cars within the Eastern region and ferrying them to other states of the country.
“Luck however, ran against them when on March 30, 2014, these dare-devil criminals met their waterloo when they stormed the residence of one Dr. Ishmed I. Nwabueze, the medical director of a specialist hospital and robbed him of his Infinity Jeep 2001 model with registration number SSM 457 AA.”
Ali said the criminals were intercepted by the command’s scorpion squad, and two of the robbers were arrested while the others escaped with bullet wounds.
He said items recovered included one Infinity jeep 2001 model, with REG. No. SSM 457 AA; Toyota Avalon NCH323 AE; Toyota Avalon car with registration number KTU 849 BT and one Qlink motorcycle.
Also recovered two locally made pistols with 10 live cartridges, two laptop computers and one LCD television.
The CP listed the names of the suspects as follows: Chideraa Njoku, 20, Onyebuchi Emeka, 22, Late Levi Iwu all from Amaiyi Umuaka in Njaba LGA while Ejike Egbuka, 24, and Clever Odinaka, 23 hail from Obibiezena in Owerri North LGA and Umuchieke Umuobom in Ideato South respectively.
The police boss used the opportunity to note that some die hard hoodlums have decided to test the might of his scorpion squad, warning that henceforth, Imo would be too hot for criminals, robbers, kidnappers and people involved in other forms of illegality.
