Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Kaduna United, was thrown into mourning as the club lost its chief coach, Saleh Lato.
Supersport.com gathered that the experienced gaffer died at the Ibrahim Sanni Abacha hospital, Kaduna, after just a day of illness.
Lato will always be remembered by Kaduna United supporters as he was part of the technical crew that won the 2010 Federation Cup, beating Enyimba 3-2.
Confirming the tragic news to Supersport.com on Sunday night, the club’s captain, Emmanuel Ambrose, revealed that the demise of the coach came as a great shock.
“I can confirm to you that we have lost our coach (Lato) and all the players can’t believe that he’s dead, considering the level of malaria he had.
“He only complained of malaria in the morning, and the next thing we would hear later in the evening was that our coach is dead just like that.
“This is a great tragedy for our team, and I pray that God should give his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” Ambrose told Supersport.com tearfully.
Meanwhile, players of Kaduna United were still battling with their 0-1 loss to Crown FC on Sunday before they were hit with the news of their coach demise.
