Gunmen Attack The Sun Newspaper Office In Aba, Beat Up Staff, Vendors

Hell was let loose in Aba, Abia state on Monday as unidentified gunmen attacked the office of The Sun newspaper, beat up staff and vendors before carting away an undisclosed amount of cash.

 

Trouble started for the staff and vendors when they could not provide answers to the whereabouts of the Aba Correspondent of The Nation Newspapers, Sunny Nwankwo and his The Sun counterpart, Okey Sampson to the unwanted visitors.

 

The gunmen who were said to be numbering 5 destroying office equipment and inflicted heavy injuries on the staff and vendors, among whom were two women.

 

One of The Sun’s Staff who sustained injury on his head told our correspondent that “about three hefty men came to our office around some minutes to 9am, asking us about Sunny Nwankwo, a journalist in Aba. We told them that we don’t know him. Not convinced by our response, they went ahead to show us the number the said Sunny, we still told them that we don’t know the number. They brandished their guns and also asked about our reporter, Okey Sampson, asking us to tell them that they will soon kill them.

 

“Another person who was holding a short gun and standing at the door made repeated calls and immediately after the call, walked in and started beating everybody. They hit me with the calculator I was using to check returns from vendors. The vendors were not pared as they collected their money and beat them mercilessly”

 

He also alleged that the thugs who arrived the office located at 76 St. Michaels road, Aba in a branded yellow taxi cab without registration numbers promised to return to burn down the office.

 

When contacted, The Nation correspondent, Nwankwo told 247ureports.com that he received a call from an anonymous caller with MTN number 08036638088, luring him with an advert offer.

 

But when he insisted that the caller drop he advert at his office, he(the caller) called again, threatening to deal with him soon.
