Violence took the better part of the Community Government Councils elections being organised by the IMO State Government(CGC).
CGC is a concept initiated by Governor Rochas Okorocha to replace town unions in all the 637 communities in the state.
In all the communities visited by 247ureports.com on Saturday, the elections ended in fiasco as there was no security personnel at the election grounds.
In Anara community in Isiala Mbano LGA, the election could not hold as two opposing groups in the contest scattered the canopies set in the field.
Also, in Emekuku, Okwudor and Irete in Owerri North, Njaba and Owerri West local government areas, allegations of government handpicking candidates also led to serious fight among supporters of different candidates.
The state government was accused of already choosing its candidates even before the election to use them as All Progressives Congress (APC) structure in the communities.
It would be recalled that during the recently concluded APC registration exercise, the state government was accused of forcing the town union(CGC) executives to either register with the party or lose their positions during the election.
