These are not the best of times for the ailing Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in Anambra State following the failed outing in the gubernatorial elections of November 16, 2013 where the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] candidate won the election in what appeared a landslide over the Peoples Democratic Party, Labor Party and the All Progressive Congress candidates.

Information available to 247ureports.com obtained from competent sources near the center of activity within the APGA reveal that the Senator representing the southern district of Anambra State, Senator Andy Ubah may have opened talks with the stakeholders within the All Progressive Grand Alliance – on the possible prospects of joining the APGA. According to a source, the then factional chairman of APGA/recently deposed APGA chairman, Chief Victor Umeh had sought audience with Senator Andy Ubah with an offer to join his faction of the APGA – in an effort to recruit Senator Andy Ubah into aiding him recover his lost chairmanship of the APGA.

Senator Andy Ubah who believed he was treated unfairly by PDP during the PDP gubernatorial primaries in Anambra State [leading up to the November 16, 2013 election], did not immediately accept Chief Victor Umeh’s offer to join the party as a possible flagbearer of the party. Rather, the Senator was said to ‘play a good host’ to the deposed APGA chairman. A source near Senator Uba explained that the Senator did not want to discard Chief Umeh’s offer partly because the PDP had not reacted well to his [Andy Ubah] efforts to keep the party alive in Anambra state ‘single-handedly‘. And that “Senator Ubah knows how popular APGA has become in Anambra“, said the source.

Knowledgeable sources in Awka, Anambra State revealed to 247ureports.com that the Senator – following his experience at the PDP primaries where the party adopted Tony Nwoye’s candidacy over him [Andy Ubah] – instructed his supporters and ‘paid’ campaigners move over to the APGA camp to support the APGA candidate. Resources were then made available to the APGA candidate.

Following the end of the gubernatorial elections, the lingering tussle for the chairmanship of the APGA slowed Senator Andy Ubah’s ‘official’ entrance into the party. It is recalled that a recent ruling by the court pointed at Maxi Okwu as the substantive chairman of the party. The ruling may have thrown a wrench into the anticipated entrance of Senator Ubah into the party. It is unsure if Senator Andy Ubah had opened talks with the new APGA chairman, Maxi Okwu.

Notwithstanding, the Senator has denied talks of his joining the APGA party. In his response to 247ureports.com’s inquiry, he made made it clear that he remains a PDP member. In his words, “they are not serious, I am PDP and I remain PDP“.
