Four armed robbery suspects, Thursday night, raided an Imo State-based
newspaper company, Nigeria Newspoint, carting away about N400, 000 and
other valuables.
The robbers also injured the co-publisher of the newspaper, Mr. Gele
Agbai and special correspondent, Mr. Ugochukwu Chimeziri.
They also collected the car keys of Mr. Lambert Ojukwu, co-publisher
of the newspaper, though without moving it.
The co-publisher, Agbai, his editor, Emma Iheaka and a reporter,
Ndubueze Nwokoma lost their laptops in addition to vital documents and
other items carted away by the robbers.
Nwokoma told our reporter that a cheque of N500, 000 and documents to
his landed property were also taken away alongside his laptop by the
robbers.
Also, all the eight people working for the night production of the
newspaper’s Friday edition lost their phones and money.
According to Agbai, the robbery took place around 8.20pm when they
were concluding the production for yesterday’s edition of the paper,
thereby leading to the suspension of production.
He said the robbers came ordering everyone in the office to lie down
and bring their money and valuables.
Agbai disclosed that they first went to the office of the special
project reporter, Collins Amadi, who is also Transition Committee
member for Owerri Municipal Council and the N100, 000 he returned to
the office with before proceeding to other offices to rob them.
He said he and his injured staff went to the hospital that night for
medical treatment. The matter had been reported to the police.
