Policemen from the Aba Area Command in Abia State have arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Maduabuchi Green; five years after he fled the city while on the wanted list of the police.
247ureports.comĀ gathered that Green, who is a native of Abayi Okoroato Community in Obingwa LGA, is related to a notorious bank robber, Ikechi Green alias ā€˜Ik bankā€ who died during a gun duel with the police as he raided a bank in Umuahia in 2009.
The police are said to have arrested him when he was traced to his village after he has been monitored for some months.Ā Ā According to sources, Green returned to his evil ways since he came back from exile in Lagos and have been operating with his gang kidnapping people around Ogbor Hill communities such as Federal Housing Estate, 7UP, Umuokahia, Opobo road and others parts of Aba.
ā€œThe recent kidnapping incidents around Ogbor Hill area were all linked to him and his gang who sometimes come in to Aba from Port Harcourt,ā€ a police source told our correspondent.
Another source who narrated tales of the crime business operated by younger Green told
247ureports.comĀ that ā€œAfter the death of his brother who was killed in Umuahia, he took possessions of his brotherā€™s arsenal and continued robbery and kidnapping.Ā Ā Most members of his gang operate from neighbouring states especially Rivers state. He has been a terror to his community and residents of Aba. When Police started looking for him, he fled Lagos to escape arrest.ā€
The source added that while his late brother, ā€˜Ik Bankā€™ lived, Maduabuchi was in charge of storing his ammunition and ferrying them to areas where they operate.
The Public Relations Officer of the Abia Police Command,, ASP Ogbonna Geoffrey could not be reached for comments but aĀ Ā senior police chief in the Aba Area Command who did not want his name on print, confirmed the arrest and added that Green has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia.
