*Police, Hoodlums Rapes Women in Impunity

The former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji has been fingered of having again masterminded the alleged murder of 5 persons (3 octogenarians and 2 little children) who were allegedly buried inside their apartments by earth rolling machines, which demolished dozens of buildings at Onuogba Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State on Monday.
Shocking of the ugly news was that not fewer than 3o both married and unmarried female were allegedly raped by some of the policemen and hoodlums that accompanied the team that demolished the remaining buildings of the innocent people of Nkomoro Onougba Nike last Monday.
The action that has attracted the youths of the village from different States including aboard home aimed at deciding on how best to handle the ugly situation. One of the youths who spoke with 247ureports under the condition of anonymous said they have been pushed to the wall and may not sit to see their mothers, sisters, grandmas and grate-grandmas been abuse sexually even after destroying their residential homes at Nkomoro Onuogba Nike.
“We got the wind that caterpillars stormed our homes and demolished 220 buildings, no one could believe such news but when we came back home last night, what we saw was even more than what we were told on phone. Imagine where some of female in the community were raped under gunpoint by some of the policemen and hoodlums that accompanied the caterpillars to our village. I know you are Journalist, (referring to this reporter) but it is good you are here, we are now battle ready with any other person that will step his feet into this community in the name of demolition” The youth threatened under the condition of anonymity.
On the possible way of resolving the issue, the people of the invaded community mutually vowed to visit anybody that ventures to make them uncomfortable with any action available to them. “Let us make it known to any person or group of persons coming to demolish the remaining part Nkomoro Onuogba that we are going to him or her with his own coin. Hence they want what happened at Ezillo to repeat itself here, we are ready and there is no going back” They threatened.
A woman at her late forties (names withheld) who alleged that she and one of her daughter was raped by the four policemen said she and her daughter has handed the rapists unto God for their reward hence they have nobody to fight for them even as other women who said they were also raped said they are going to consult International Federation of Female Lawyers, FIDA, Enugu State chapter to help them nip those that abused them sexually even before the rest members of their family.
It would be recalled that as also gathered that some youths of the invaded community who tried to remove the property of their parents from their different apartments to avoid being destroyed allegedly got machete cuts from the ‘land soldiers’ allegedly working for the former minister. The affected youths are now hospitalized in different undisclosed hospitals in EnuguState.
Condemning the alleged act of the ex-minister when contacted, a pastor Onuogba Nike Community, Rev. Itumo Prosper resides at Nnewi in AnambraState openly accused Prof. Nnaji of having forced Nkomoro Onuogba people who have lived in Onuogba Nike for over one hundred years to become refugees in their own land.
The clergy made it known that it was his fathers that were called by Onuogba Nike people in the olden days, stating that he will be testifying with clear evidence on how they came to settle at the troubled community if calls upon to do so.
Adding his voice on the man made disaster, Mr. Stephen Anieke recalled that the people of Nkomoru Onugba-Nike in Enugu East Council Area of Enugu State currently homeless has called on Enugu State Government, corporate bodies, organizations and philanthropists to as a matter of urgency come to their aid.
He wondered that despite the level of the wanton destruction of both buildings and their personal property, no government personal either from Enugu state Government, Enugu East Council Area, neither Law enforcement agents nor the church has visited them. “It is only when our youths will rise and take the laws into their hands that those ought to have come to quell the already swelled storm will come to arrest us. By the virtue of the years we have lived here and by going through the constitution of Nigeria, those we are destroying our property should be made to pay dearly for it” Mr. Anieke stated.
Also speaking, Onitsha and Nnewi Chairmen of the community Mr. Stephan Nwezzama and Mr. Hyacinth Nwoke respectively also appealed to their members, especially youths of the community to remain calm and resist every attempt of taking laws into their hands, as they awaits state government’s reaction even as they called on Governor Sullivan Chime, to as a matter of urgency wade into the ugly development now making life unbearable for his people.
He also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, to come to their assistance, saying the situation has thrown the entire community into pandemonium and perpetual hardship. However, investigation by this reporter revealed that the ex- minister of power has acquired parts of the community land which he intends using for certain structures in no distant time.
When contacted through his GSM line, the one time minister denied the allegation, stating that he never bought any land in the neglected community let alone moving earth rolling machines to demolish peoples’ homes.
When contacted on the latest development, the traditional ruler Onuogba Nike community, His Royal Highness, Igwe Benedict Okonweze who ought to act as the chief security officer of his community said he was not aware of any the happenings in his kingdom while the Vice President of and Emmanuel Uboshi said his subjects has no hands in the demolition currently taking place at Nkomoro Onuogba Nike. If the people of Nkomoro are having problem with anybody, they should go and find out from the family of Hyacinth Alinta.
