Delta Govt Supports Prison Command With Vehicles, Says Move Was To Fast The Dispensation Of Justice

The Delta State Government has handed over two brand new Toyota Hiace buses fitted with security brass to the Delta Command of the Nigerian Prisons, saying it would fast track the dispensation of justice as prison authorities can now reproduce awaiting trial inmates in court without delay.

 

The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, who handed over the keys of the buses worth over N10million to the State Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Smith, who in turn presented the keys to the State Controller of Prisons, enjoined the Prison authority to make good use of the buses specially assigned to transport inmates to the two special criminal courts in Asaba, the State Capital. He said the two courts were established to handle serious criminal offences for accelerated hearings.

 

The Delta AG used the opportunity to stress on the peace and security efforts of the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan administration and gave an assurance that Government will not relent in its efforts. He said the gesture was prt of Goverment efforts to reinvigorate its total commitment to boosting peace in the state, fast track criminal trials s well as to enhance the justice delivering system.

 

The State Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Smith while presenting the keys to the State Controller, Mr. Olanrele Joseph, aligned himself with the position canvassed by the State Attorney-General annd urged the Prison Command to dedicate the buses for the two special courts in order to bring inmates to court to face their trials unhindered.

 

On his part, the State Controller of Prisons, Mr. Olanrele Joseph was full of appreciation to the State Government for the gesture, saying it was not the first time the Delta State Government was supporting them with vehicles which he said will assist in timely reproducing awaiting trial inmates to court without delay arising from lack of prison vehicles. Like Oliver Twist, the Controller solicited for more support from the State Government in the area of skill developement of prisoners for efficient reformation as well as finacial support to enhance their operations in the State
