After months of speculations, the Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Damishi Barau, has finally submitted a letter withdrawing his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The deputy governor, who walked into the state secretariat of the party around 11:00 a.m. on Monday, handed the letter to the state secretary of the party, Mustapha Galadima.

The Nasarawa State interim Chairman of the APC, Stanley Buba, confirmed the development.

Mr. Buba said the party wished the deputy governor well in his future endeavour.

“He was under suspension before now, I don’t know whether it’s the suspension that made him to quit but all the same we wish him well in his future endeavour,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director of Press Affairs to the Deputy Governor, Danjuma Joseph, said that his principal would soon make a public announcement.

“My principal has submitted his letter of withdrawal from APC and will brief the press Tuesday on his next line of action,” he said.

Although the deputy governor is yet to confirm the party he is moving to, the state publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mark Neto, said Mr. Barau would formally join the PDP on Tuesday.

There are indications that five commissioners and two special advisers will join the deputy governor in the PDP.

Mr. Barau was recently suspended by the Nasarawa APC for publicly criticising the national leadership of the party over its stance that its lawmakers in the National Assembly should frustrate Executive bills until the political crisis in Rivers is resolved.

The Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura is a member of the APC, but the Nasarawa Assembly is PDP dominated, fuelling speculations of an impeachment plan.
