Britain’s minister for Africa, Mark Simmonds is in Nigeria to deliver a personal message from Queen Elizabeth II at this week’s centenary celebrations holding in Abuja.

Mark Simmonds during the occasion will deliver a keynote speech in which he will address the potential for Africa and Nigeria’s future.

Titled African Choices in a New Nigerian Century, the speech will buttress Nigeria’s growing economic potential. No fewer than 28 world leaders have indicated an interest in attending the week-long celebrations in Abuja during which President Goodluck Jonathan will confer honors on 100 Nigerians.

Simmonds said: “I am excited to be making my second visit to Nigeria and I am looking forward to representing the British government at the 100 years celebrations. I bring with me the best wishes of the British people, including a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.”
