Chime lauds Jonathan over Peer Review Committee

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has commended the President
Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Goodluck Ebelle  Janathan
for the constitution of the National Steering Committee on the Second
peer review of Nigeria.

The Governor gave the commendation through his Deputy Mr. Sunday
Onyebuchi when the members of the committee paid a courtesy call at
the Government House, Enugu.

The Governor noted that member of the committee led by the Formal
President of the Senate, Hon. Ken Nnamani are made up of eminent
Nigerians who cut across all sectors of the economy.
According to Governor Chime, it is difficult for one to assess himself
but with the enlightenment and sensitization which the committees
visit had provided, the State is cover ready to assess itself better.
The Governor expressed delight that the first review had impacted
positively on Nigerians especially on the area of poverty reduction,
hoping that the second review would impact move on the people.

The State Chief Executive added that the State encourages a review
mechanism of government activities not only in the state but also in
various local government councils on the state which he said had led
to various giant studies and good governance in the state.

Governor Chime called for the spirit of patriotism in Nigeria and the
reintroduction of the Civic education in our schools to enable people
know why we should love our country and talk good of it no matter the
challenges.

He thanked members of the committee for their enlightenment programme
in the state assuring them of the state government readiness to
support their programme.

Earlier in an address, the leader of the group Chief Ken Nnamani
informed the Governor that the group was in the State to enlighten the
people on the intending review of government activities by member
countries of African Union in various states in Nigeria.

He added that the committee was in Enugu to sensitize the state on the
self assessment programme so that the State would be able to answer
questions from other member countries on the four area of review
mechanism among which are Democracy and political governance, economic
governance and political governance and corporate governance among
others.

The added that the second review will explain how far we have done in
political corruption. He added that the challenge Nigeria is facing
today is corruption.

According to chief Nnamani if nothing in done the country is aim of
becoming the 20th country of the world in industrialization by the
year 2020 would be a mirage the added that we should tell our self
truth about our roles in our democracy and good governance, or roles
in economic growth and development. Senator Nnamani expressed delight
that the first review had impacted on Nigerians especially in of
poverty eradication.

He added that the review had led to introduction of transparent budget
monitoring, establishment of extractive industries, and restructuring
of public sector.

In their separate contribution during interactive section the
Commissioner for Enugu Capital Territory, Hon. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede and
the Chief of Staff Government House Enugu, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo
enjoined the committee to thinks on how to monitor Federal projects in
states to determine the extent to which these projects are executed.
