For president Goodluck Jonathan, it is one week , one trouble, as he embarked on mobilization visits to traditional rulers, in the North and South- west ahead the 2015 general election, indications are rife that his trusted aides are cashing on the crisis threatening his second term ambition.
It could be recalled that for the past three weeks, President Jonathan had embarked on far reaching decision, with the sack of his Chief of staff, Mike Ogadiomeh, Elder Godswill Orubebe and Stella Oduah, the former minister of Aviation Minister, for an alleged graft.
But the trouble this time is within, as five Northern groups which have been champions of his second term campaign had threatened to withdraw their support and launch massive campaign against his ambition.
The groups alleged that despite their support, the president handlers have treated them with levity.
The five groups led by the Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) in a press statement made available to 247ureports.com, after its meeting in Abuja, on Monday, based their grievances on the “selfish and insincere manner those purported to be handling the Jonathan’s campaign go about business”
The Coordinator of the groups, a onetime Editor of Summit Newspapers, Malam Adul-Azeez Sulieman, stated in a statement that while their members have come under intense pressure, Jonathan team on the other hand appear not to appreciate their efforts.
“Instead of recognizing genuinely committed groups, Jonathan’s handlers prefer to do business with old inconsequential politicians of the North that are incapable of adding value to the campaign” Suileman said.
He said “politics is a matter of interest, and people cannot continue to waste their time, resources on people that did not appreciate their effort”
Indeed 247ureports.com investigations revealed that behind the charade mentioned in the statement is an Abuja based publisher, an aide to the President who have been exploiting the groups.
The Abuja based publisher, according to very reliable source, has formed the habit of gathering Bureau chiefs and Reporters for the group to defend Jonathan’s interest, only to deliver the newspapers cut out to the president, but in turn only paying them peanuts.
The groups according to the sources said the handler who is from Jonathan’s rustic town of Bayelsa, has been feeding fat on the group, and exposing them to danger.
Already 247ureports.com gathered that some hawks in the Presidency have expressed concern over the threat by the group, while APC has launched moves to woo the group to its folds.
