The chairman Nigeria Legion Nasarawa state wing, retired colonel David Masaka has described the Army Day Remembrance celebration which was an annual ritual in remembrance of fallen heroes of Nigeria Army as a total diversion from the present realities.
Masaka in an interview with journalist affirmed that the fallen heroes of the country who fought for the sustenance of the nation were relegated to the background instead of given adequate care.
He described the quest for the sustenance of peace of the country by crop of Army who protect this country from disintegration as an exercise in futility, saying the both those that died in the struggle for the unity of the nation are wallowing in anguish, squalor, hunger, deprivation and stagnation.
“Is a shattered dreams, it was hopes amidst despair, He however affirmed that the survival of the three years Biafra war, Which he certified as the most intense skirmish in the country are struggling for their pension and gratuity after sacrificing their dear life in active service for the country.
“Many died while pursuing their entitlement while others are surviving from the mercy of relatives and friends but not from the fruit of their labour, calling on the Federal and state Government to give optimum attention to the quandary of ex-service men whom he termed as an embodiment of peace and unity.
The state Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in his speech commended the holistic effort of the Nigerian Army for uniting the nation, adding that the country is witnessing a turbulent period, calling on the Army to remain resolute and committed in their task of safeguarding the lives and properties of its citizenry.
The state Deputy Governor Dameshi Luka who represented the Governor stated this while delivering the speech of the chief executive, The occasion marks the realized of pigeons and gun shots as the last respect to the fallen heroes.
Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to cushion the effect of hardship faced by the ex-service men donated a wholesome of N2m to the legionnaires, calling on the people of the state to unite for the interest of peace, saying no nation or state can experience rapid progress without peace.
